The story is a bit brutal and the punishments are abusive. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Emmie runs away to avoid an arranged marriage to a terrible man. She is saved by the leader of the exiled, who spanks her, rapes her, and then kidnaps her to his secret village. She slowly falls in love with Lucian despite not being able to reconcile the villain in him with the hero.

In Taken by the Enemy the protagonist Emmie is a sheltered, but feisty young woman who refuses to be intimidated by her controlling father, the leader of the gated city they live in. She finally reaches a point where she can no longer tolerate her father’s abuse and runs away to the forest that exists outside the walled city. Outside the city exists another community of people who were banished for various reasons and exiled there by Emmie’s father; they all fear and despise him. These outsiders have to forage for food and any other comfort they can find, the group is led by Lucien who is well respected, but slightly inflexible. Lucien rescues Emmie while she is hiding in the forest and from this encounter the story of their relationship evolves. I enjoyed this book; the storyline was different and held my interest. I have read a lot of dark erotica and although this book was a bit on the dark side I didn’t consider it to be overly dark, I also felt there was more of an actual story line than sex scenes. Any dark scenes were well integrated and relevant to the story.

I was drawn into this dark erotic story with a corrupt government system, evil men controlling people, a system that exiled people from the city without a fair trial, leaving them to die. People inside the city were told those that were exiled were no more than wild animals. Emmie is being forced into a marriage to a sadistic man and flees the city to the forest, but dangers lurk with wild animals. Saved from a wild boar and captured by exiled warriors is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. The plot kept me captivated and the pages turning with the resourcefulness of those in the village that had been rescued after being exiled. There are rules and order in the camp, and everyone is expected to pull their weight. Emmie is in for a rude awakening as she is belligerent, mouthy and has to learn a new way of life. From the village to the city, this story will take the reader on a roller coaster ride that is intense and raw, including rape, dubious consent, course language, spankings, anal play, but it offers a dark story that also has loyalty, determinations, survival and love stories too.

This story is set in the future where Emmie the daughter of a rich ruler is escaping her fate of marriage to a sadistic husband. Over the safe city walls she becomes entangled in the machinations of The Exiles from the ruler. Emmie's new fate is to blend in with her new existence, harsh though it is by obedience and submission to the leader Lucian. However, their relationship doesn't go as planned as others see her as an intruder and a negotiating tool to return to the City. This is a fast-paced pager-turner not only about the relationship between Emmie and Lucian but about corruption and the harsh realties of life whether it's priviledged or the edge of civilisation.

I found this book to be very well written. It is definitely not one for someone that is faint of heart because there are many situations in which the main character, Emmie, faces violence towards her that is not consensual. I loved the interactions between Emmie and Lucien as they are both strong and smart but willing to compromise with each other when needed. I found this book to be very thought provoking and full of interesting characters and situations and would recommend it. This is also the first time that I have discovered this author – but will not be the last.

This is a well written book with quite a story however, the story has a dark edge which may be a trigger for some. If you are looking for wine and roses this probably is not the book for you. I was hooked from page one and had to keep on reading. The story drew me in and offered adventure, action, suspense, betrayal, some steam and romance. This is a new author for me and I look forward to reading her next release.

This is fairly fast paced and a bit brutal. Even though Emeline appeared to come from a privileged background in reality it was a harsh existence. Emetine found it difficult to control her temper which made it difficult to avoid punishment/discipline for disrespecting the senior members of the group outlaws. She redeemed herself in the end and won the trust and gratitude of the group.

I have to admit that I read this story in one day. It is hot scary and exciting. The writing is descriptive. The characters are well rounded and very human with lots of faults. And the sex is spicy. There is a lot of abuse in this story so it is not for the feint hearted. I really enjoyed this story and I highly recommend it. WI4T5
