This isn't a complete story but a building of the world of the Walden School and the two major players in the rest of the series. We are introduced to Charles who has some particular ideas of the direction he wants his life to take and the role his cousin should play. He is upset when his cousin changes the rules and he is left to reevaluate his life. Sam is a young lady on the edge of her life. What happens to her next will determine if she will any chance at a better life or staying in the rough life she has always known. Her coach is the one person who sees her worth and will push her to a better self.
Each character has one person who is helping to mold the next stage of life whether in negative or positive way. We can also see the contrast of the privilege who has to learn with the upset of being told no and the poor who are being made to see that they deserve a chance.
It will be interesting to see what enfolds as the series continues.
Love, love, loved this book! I love Bella Bryce's books like no others, and Walden is no exception! Walden School is a magical place that I cannot wait to visit again and again! Walden sets up the background for the Walden School series about to be released, and is filled with the intricate details that make Walden School set apart- order, discipline, and opportunity to name a few. My only complaint is that she couldn't possibly write fast enough! More Walden please!
Walden by Bella Bryce from blushing books.... was phenomenal! I read it in one day and with three small kids that really says something! BRAVO on the excellent read it was the kind of book that leaves you feeling a little sad when you get to the last page because you are not ready for it to be over yet!!
I love what Bella Bryce did to introduce her new series about a very traditional English boarding school. This book shows us the prefects' training to prepare them to be the disciplinarians of the school. In doing so, we got to know these important characters and the values they hold. We also understand their responsibilities and the school policies, as well as the overall climate of the school. One other character was introduced and I know him enough to be disturbed. I can't wait for the next book.
This is a new series about Walden, a boarding school in England. We learn about the selection process for prefects, a position that is desired by many, but only a few are named. Also, from the prefects are the Head Boy and Head Girl, who help run the school. All are held to a high standard. I am very ready to read the next in the series! I give this 5 stars.
I enjoyed this beginning to a new series and found it informative and engaging. Having read stories before with Perfects, this novella allowed the reader to be a voyeur into the process and intensity of the duties and the fine line that they must hold and be held accountable. A position that is coveted by many but only held by few, and to be appointed Head Boy or Girl is truly an honor. The plot kept me captivated and the pages turning and preparing the reader for more to come. The characters are engaging, the dialog was open and honest. With just enough insight for some of the student that we will probably be seeing in the next book in this series, has me looking forward to the next book.
This book tell the story about a famous English school that upholds the traditions that go back to the founding of the school. The amazingly gifted author, Bella Bryce, delves deeply into these complex characters and explores the feelings and emotions. The competition to gain admission to Walden is fierce and only 8 go above and beyond the other students to become Perfects (like monitors) to help run the school and are responsible for the Discpline and order. In some of the previous books, some of the characters had gone to Walden and helped shape their character. My only complaint was the story ended too soon and I'm so looking forward to the next book. This was a wonderful read and I highly recommend it.
