This is the second book about Alex and Laurie and their ups and downs. Laurie struggles from low self esteem and low confidence, due to the abuse she suffered and the difference with domestic discipline .this was a wonderful romance.
This is the second book in the “Officer and the Brat” series and continues the story of Laurie and Alex. Laurie is a girl who has had a really rough family life; Alex is a law enforcement officer who is living with her and helping her to forget the past as he introduces her to the possibilities of a wonderful future with him and his loving extended family. The story has a lot of emotional moments as Laurie gradually comes to understand the difference between Alex and his family, and the family she had grown up with; and there is a lot of sex and spankings as their relationship develops.
This is book two of The Officer and the Brat series and is crammed full of emotions, painful past, dealing with less than ideal family members, trying to fit in when you feel like you are on the outside looking in, and just trying to cope. The plot kept me captivated and the pages turning with honest and open dialog and emotional issues. This is a domestic discipline story with a loving man and woman in a consensual relationship.
Lawrene doesn’t fit the mold of her dysfunctional family, and Alex thinks she is making up things or remembering things as a child would, especially in regards her mother. Boy does that change when he meets her mother. Dealing with her family, her insecurities and her lack of faith cause many HoH/TiH moments to help her work through understanding he loves her for who she is and not where she came from. For Frank, living a life of crime eventually catches up with him, and for Marlena, she is trying to make positive changes. Alex’s family embraces Laurie. and as far as they are concerned, she is now part of their family. Alex and Laurie work through many issues and just grow closer and more in love. It is wonderful to see Laurie and Alex find an HEA ending.
I really enjoyed this book about Alex and Laurie’s developing relationship. I would recommend that you read the first book in this series, Apprehended by Lust, prior to this book as this book references events, feelings and people that were introduced in the first book. In addition to the further development of Alex and Laurie’s loving domestic discipline relationship, this book provides an amazing account of how Laurie struggles with her self-image and self-worth due to her family. Alex’s patience and consistent behavior when dealing with Laurie’s low self-esteem is a wonderful example of disciplined loving. I will definitely purchase the next book in this series and recommend this one for anyone that loves a sweet, caring and loving relationship.
Elizabeth McKay did a wonderful job writing Arrested By Love. Her storyline and characters are realistic and could occur in everyday life. While this is book two in a series and can be read alone I recommend reading book one to see how their love started and developed. Alex is an alpha male and is willing to do everything he can to protect the love of his life. Laurie is trying to overcome the challenges of her dysfunctional and uncaring family. She is building her life with the love, support, protection, and guidance of Alex but is just learning what it is like to have the love and support of a caring family. Laurie learns the difference between the abuse she has suffered in her past and the domestic discipline Alex lives by. Will she be able to accept Alex's loving discipline and overcome her old circumstances? I recommend reading and finding out. While this book was a little short it is well worth the read. I hope to see a continuation of Alex's and Laurie's love story. I hope y'all like it as much as I did. Thanks for a wonderful series.
