It was enjoyable to return to the planet Markin, with its unique characters, climate, and animals. Ranyana is unsettled, she loves her long-time former schoolmate and lover, Braedon, but she also craves to go and experience more. Braedon is years older and has been studying to be a master blacksmith. He loves Ranyana enough to allow her to spread her wings. Rejected by larger stables housing Nillips, she doesn’t let it stop her and leaves for Pom and hoping to still be hired on. Her strong determination nearly gets her killed, but proves her commitment to training at a large stable to one day own her own. Dimitri is the veterinarian and healer for Cave Stables, and where she is accepted. Learning strict discipline, including planik (punishment), she also is training under Dimi, and they are growing close. What happens when Braedon shows up for Yana at Cave Stables? Two men who both call her beloved, are willing to share her, each given time alone, but building a relationship. Attim, the master of Cave Stables, picks Dimi, Yana, and Braedon to ride the great race which will take them on a life and death adventure and teach each cooperation during the most trying of times. This story will read as a standalone with completely different characters as book 1.

If you love a stubborn, independent heroine...if you enjoy hunky dominant men....if you love animals....if you prize hot kinky sex and need domestic discipline.....and if you thrive on adventure, read this book.

Loved this book. It's great storytelling. I love the vivid description of this world and the animals in it. I love the way we get to know the central characters so well and to feel their emotions, Ranyana's in particular. I love the story, Ranyana's courage to follow her dream and her heart, her subsequent journey and adventure in the race. I was emotionally invested in all three of them and hoped like hell they could stay together and carry on loving each other.

The planet of Markin is brought to life once again in the story of Ranyana's Race. I reread Lellen's Journey before reading this book because it had been a long time and I like to remember all the details. It's not necessary to have read the first book to thoroughly enjoy this one, although I recommend it. The characters are all new and the author did a great job of slipping in the history, geography, and customs of Markin. I'm impressed with the level of detail involved and this book only added more information about the planet. The story of Ranyana was captivating; with no way to predict what could happen, I had to keep turning pages. Expertly written, this book had me fully immersed with the very "real" characters, and combined punishment, sex, and action scenes in a way that seemed perfectly natural. I really liked the main characters and their realistic human emotions. Don't let the name mislead you; the book is more about love and pursuing dreams than the actual race, which starts in the second half. The race itself is so action packed and highly emotional, however, that the book is aptly named. There is not a dull moment in this book and I highly recommend it.

Ranyana wants something more than just marrying someone from her village and having babies like everyone seems to on the planet of Markin. Braedon, her childhood sweetheart is man enough to let her go to 'find' herself whether it's the love of another person or to enter 'The Great Desert Race'...something she feels a calling for. Ranyana eventually gets accepted to a nillip stable and trains with the vet Dimitri. After many trials and mishaps she enters the Race with Dimitri and Braedon as her team mates to find themselves successful in winning the coveted prize monies to start their own nillip stable.

This is a long very interesting read. The author has a wonderful imagination which is very evident in this book. The planet of Marking is picturesquely described. All the characters are vivid and very real. There are planikings and some very hot sexy scenes. Ranyana is very loved by her men and the nilips. She is a very talented girl with a very lofty ambitions. This story is so well written, a real page turner because the reader will want to know what happens and does she do it! I very highly recommend it.
